UNEX UGV Demonstrates Capability by Towing 3.2-Ton Howitzer

According to a statement released by ABRIS DG, the test demonstrated the potential of unmanned platforms to reduce manpower requirements in frontline logistical transport and ammunition resupply operations.

Under conventional doctrine, the deployment of the Soviet-designed 122 mm D-30 howitzer requires a dedicated prime mover and crew, while the transport of ammunition and supply materials necessitates a second vehicle. The UNEX platform’s ability to perform both missions concurrently allows military units to deploy a single autonomous system instead of two separate vehicles and driver personnel along the forward line of own troops (FLOT).

High Mobility and All-Terrain Capability

Powered by a lithium-ion battery pack and dual electric motors—each generating 32.7 kilowatts—the amphibious UNEX features an electric propulsion system. The vehicle, which boasts a maximum payload capacity of 1.7 tonnes and a top speed of 20 km/h, can be operated remotely from a distance exceeding 10 kilometers, with an operational endurance of up to six hours.

Thanks to its wide-tired chassis design, the vehicle's ground pressure remains lower than that of a dismounted soldier on foot. This architectural design enables the platform to navigate safely through muddy, rugged, and mine-threatened terrain conditions.

Due to its cross-country mobility and logistical advantages in mined areas, the platform has officially been codified and accepted into service by the Ministry of Defence of Ukraine.

Recognized by the U.S. Army

The UNEX secured a top-five finish among 170 candidates at the U.S. Army’s "XTech Edge Strike" competition held in Vilseck, Germany, in March 2026. During those trials, the vehicle demonstrated its capability to tow a Joint Light Tactical Vehicle (JLTV) weighing approximately six tonnes and successfully launched FPV drones from its deck.

Through its American partner, Mountain Horse LLC, ABRIS DG has gained access to the U.S. Army’s 10-year Global Tactical Advanced Communication / Marketplace (GTAC) framework. This contract mechanism enables U.S. military units to procure the system directly without enduring lengthy bureaucratic approval processes.
