According to a company statement released Monday, the GMF 140 will primarily be marketed for a major naval procurement programme in North America before being offered to other NATO allies seeking next-generation surface combatants.
Optimized for high-seas operations, littoral waters, transit missions, and coalition deployments, the platform features advanced digital integration, high survivability, and a reduced crew requirement.
Advanced Sensor and Combat Management Architecture
The GMF 140 has been designed for integration with U.S.-sourced primary radar options and the AEGIS Combat System, providing enhanced detection, tracking, and engagement capabilities against conventional air threats, hypersonic weapons, and ballistic missiles.
Additionally, the frigate offers an alternative configuration featuring Lockheed Martin's CMS330 Combat Management System, which utilizes an open architecture to support the integration of European-sourced sensors and weapon systems. The platform's 64-cell strike-length Vertical Launching System (VLS) is capable of deploying a wide range of munitions, including air defence, ballistic missile defence, and land-attack missiles.
Rheinmetall officials emphasized that the frigate directly addresses the requirements of NATO member states modernizing their fleets to counter increasingly complex security challenges, particularly across Europe, the North Atlantic, and the Indo-Pacific regions.
