MKE PIRANHA is ready for action

Directed via a command-and-control console installed aboard a Tuzla-class patrol boat, the PIRANA USV detonated its 100-kilogram high-explosive warhead on the target, marking the system's first live-fire surface attack demonstration.

Developed under MKE's "Effective-Simple-Affordable" design framework to address asymmetric warfare scenarios, the PIRANA is intended to augment the strike capabilities of the Turkish Naval Forces upon serial production and inventory integration.

Swarm Dynamics and Satellite Control

Designed for both solitary and networked swarm operations, the PIRANA incorporates a low-radar-cross-section (RCS) hull geometry with specialized acoustic/radar-absorbent coatings to reduce detection probability. During terminal phase engagements, the platform executes high-speed evasive maneuvers aimed at saturating enemy radar and close-in weapon systems (CIWS).

The USV features dual line-of-sight radio frequency (RF) and beyond-line-of-sight satellite communications (SATCOM) links, supporting both man-in-the-loop remote piloting and fully autonomous navigation modes. The SATCOM capability removes line-of-sight geographic constraints, allowing long-range command and control.

Capable of speeds exceeding 40 knots, the PIRANA boasts an operational range of over 200 nautical miles while carrying its 100 kg warhead payload, catering to rapid-response and littoral interception scenarios.

Manned-Unmanned Teaming Integration

The platform is engineered to interoperate within multi-domain unmanned networks. In a preliminary trial conducted in June 2025, MKE demonstrated cross-platform data-link integration between the amphibious assault ship TCG Anadolu, the Bayraktar TB3 unmanned combat aerial vehicle (UCAV), and the PIRANA USV to validate joint sensor-to-shooter capabilities.
