Under the contract, Magellan Aerospace will partner with global munitions producer Nammo to manufacture components, produce rocket motors, and conduct final assembly of the M72 anti-tank weapon systems at its Canadian facilities. The initiative aligns with the Department of National Defence’s strategy to safeguard ammunition stockpiles against global supply chain disruptions and expand domestic defense industrial capacity.
The M72 light anti-armor system, a long-standing asset in the Canadian Armed Forces' inventory, is effectively deployed by infantry units against fortified structures, light armored vehicles, and varied targets. Establishing a domestic production infrastructure aims to both modernize existing inventory and ensure uninterrupted supply during potential crises.
Magellan Aerospace officials noted that the project will expand manufacturing capabilities at its Manitoba and Ontario facilities, while preserving critical technical expertise within Canada's defense industry.
