The Baltic nation is also in advanced negotiations with Rafael Advanced Defense Systems for the procurement of additional weapon systems. Israeli Ministry of Defense sources confirmed that deliveries under existing contracts remain ongoing, with new agreements expected to be finalized shortly.
The latest delivery of Spike LR2 anti-tank guided missiles (ATGMs) stems from an agreement signed in early July. This shipment brings Lithuania's total procurement value to at least 12 million euros under a framework contract managed via EuroSpike—a Germany-based joint venture comprising Rafael, Diehl Defence, and Rheinmetall.
Advanced Missile Capabilities
The Spike LR2 is a new-generation, multi-purpose guided missile system. Designed to replace its predecessor, the upgraded variant extends operational range from 4 kilometers to 5.5 kilometers and offers either a tandem High-Explosive Anti-Tank (HEAT) or a multi-purpose warhead.
Equipped with an advanced multi-channel electro-optical seeker featuring both daylight and infrared (IR) imaging modes, the missile allows operators to perform mid-flight trajectory corrections or abort strikes mid-course.
Integration with Vilkas Armored Vehicles
The newly delivered missiles will arm the Lithuanian Land Forces' Vilkas infantry fighting vehicles—a localized derivative of the German Boxer 8x8 platform.
The Vilkas fleet is outfitted with Rafael’s Samson Mk2 remote weapon station, which features two Spike LR/LR2 launchers, a 30 mm MK-44S automatic cannon, and a 7.62 mm coaxial machine gun.
