The Israeli Ministry of Defense (IMOD) announced that the agreement marks the largest bilateral defense export contract in the history of relations between the two nations, and ranks among the largest defense deals ever signed by Israel.

Referred to in Greece as "Achilles Shield," the program also stands as one of the largest defense procurement projects Athens has undertaken to date. The network is designed to provide a multi-layered defense capability against ballistic missiles, various aerial threats, and unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs).

The agreement was signed at the Ministry of Defense headquarters by IMOD Director General, Maj. Gen. (Ret.) Amir Baram, and his Greek counterpart, Ioannis Bouras. The planned network will be structured around Israeli-made systems and an architecture informed by operational combat experience.

Under the framework of the agreement, the prime contractors include Rafael Advanced Defense Systems—whose David’s Sling system was developed via the Israel Missile Defense Organization—alongside the Barak MX system provided by Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI), and the Spyder system supplied by Rafael.

Additionally, IAI subsidiary ELTA Systems will deliver Multi-Mission Radars (MMR) for air surveillance operations, while Rafael will develop a national command-and-control system to integrate diverse sensors and interceptors under a unified defense network. This contract represents the first time the Israeli Ministry of Defense has exported a comprehensive air defense system covering such a broad spectrum of threats. The project unites Rafael and IAI systems under a joint national architecture tailored for Greece.

A separate agreement valued at 26 million euros, also signed during the meeting, covers Rafael’s "Drone Dome" counter-UAV systems. This equipment will be deployed to protect strategic facilities and reinforce Greece's existing anti-drone defenses.
