New mission for women from the Belgian army
- November 21, 2018
The Belgian Army plans to Create All-Female Special Forces Unit.
The Belgian Ministry of Defence has announced that an all-female Special Forces unit will be created by the beginning of 2020.
It was only in 1975 that Belgian women were allowed to join the army in peacetime. In 1992, the country decided to suspend mandatory conscription, eventually switching to an army of professional volunteers.
Belgian citizens who decide to do military service have a right to take part in the military they have previously chosen after a year of basic education.
Those who think that they will not do military service, can leave the office in first 6 months by informing their commandership 3 days before.
